MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS

Your voice matters in shaping the future of energy policy.

As member-owned utilities, electric cooperatives exist to serve you. That member-first mission extends beyond keeping the lights on. It means advocating for policies that protect reliable, affordable electric service for every household and business across Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.

This Legislative Guide makes that advocacy simple for our members. With a click, you can connect with your elected representatives and make your voice heard on the issues that affect your electric service, your community, and your energy future.

As a member-owner of your electric cooperative, your voice is important to ensuring the unique needs of cooperative communities are heard by policy makers.

Democracy works best when citizens engage. We hope this guide empowers you to participate in that process on the issues that matter most to the nearly 1,000,000 cooperative households across Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.

MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

Civic engagement is the cornerstone of democracy. By engaging in government through voting and advocacy, we can effect change in our communities. In keeping with our 7 Cooperative Principles that promote Concern for Community, electric cooperatives model civic participation by engaging with elected leaders at the state, federal, and local level. By engaging with legislators, Cooperatives can advocate for policies that meet our legislative goals of ensuring reliable, affordable service for all cooperative members.

That’s the guiding principle behind the Legislative Guide, designed to enable members of electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware to contact their elected representatives and make their voices heard with the convenience of a tap on a cellphone or a click on their computer.

We hope that this resource will encourage our cooperative members to become more involved in the political process and make your voice heard.
