Bill Summary:
Uniform Statewide Building Code; smoke detectors
required in new residential dwellings. Requires battery operated
or AC powered smoke alarm devices to be installed in all new residential
dwellings. The bill requires battery operated smoke alarm devices
to be equipped with a battery capable of lasting at least 10 years.
The location and installation of the smoke alarms shall be determined
by the Building Code. The owner of such residential dwelling shall
be responsible for the maintenance of the smoke alarm device.
